Peter McLoughlin was born in Ireland and moved to Chicago in 1998 where he fell in love with the city and got a job in the bar scene. He started at the bottom and quickly moved up the chain in an ‘up and coming’ bar and restaurant company. During this time he met his now wife, Skye Kopfmann. After a few years of living in Chicago, they decided it would be nice to be closer to family.

In November 2002, they moved back to Minneapolis to be closer to Skye’s family. Within the first few months Peter got a job with a well-renowned Irish Bar in St. Paul, MN and helped them open one of their establishments. During this time, he got an itch to try something new. As a farm boy growing up in Ireland he thought, “Why not try landscaping?” As it happened his wife’s dad had a landscaping company, so Peter worked there for eight years in all areas of the industry, from laborer to running machinery, and finally becoming the company’s first project manager.

Peter returned to the hospitality industry after 8 years in the landscaping industry. Becoming a project manager gave him the confidence to run a restaurant. Within 4 months there, he went from bartender to general manager of their flagship establishment downtown Minneapolis and continued to run it for 4 years. Long hours and missing out on kid’s events, Peter was tiring of the business when his friend Dennis Sakstrup called and said he was thinking of selling. And with that, Twisted Elements was born.

Skye Kopfmann-McLoughlin

Skye Kopfmann-McLoughlin was born in Prior Lake, MN and grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. Her father owns a successful landscape design/build company and her mother owns a clinic for children with special needs. After high school, she moved to Chicago and attended Columbia College where she earned a BA in fine art Photography. During that time, she met Peter McLoughlin, who had just moved from Ireland. There was an instant connection and the following year they moved to Minnesota to live near Skye’s family. They married shortly after on her parents’ farm in 2003.

When Skye was fresh out of college, she decided to temporarily work for her father’s company. She had no idea she’d still be there 12 years later, loving the business. Within her first five years, Skye helped the company’s sales increase by 40%. They took on two more designers, three more in-house crews, and hired another landscape subcontractor to keep up with the increased work load. In 2011, Skye began exploring the marketing side of the business and learned valuable experience there.

As Business and Marketing Director at Twisted Elements, Skye leads the business and marketing efforts for the company. As she spreads the word about their great product lines, Skye looks forward to building long-lasting, trusting relationships with every one of Twisted Element’s clients.
